New 988 number introduced to improve access to urgently needed mental health care
On July 15, the U.S. transitioned the 10-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to 988 – an easy-to-remember three-digit number for 24/7 crisis care. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — which also links to the Veterans Crisis Line — connects people who are experiencing a mental health crisis to a trained mental health professional.

While anyone in a crisis should utilize the 988 number, UF’s Employee Assistance Program also offers faculty and staff — including graduate assistants — and their household members someone to talk to and resources to consult 24/7.
