Theatre Connect builds community and affirmation for local LGBTQ+ youth

To offer resources for the local LGBTQ+ youth community, Center for Arts in Medicine Research Assistant Professor Jeffrey Pufahl partnered with the UF Health Youth Gender Clinic to start Theatre Connect, a theatre group for LGBTQ+ teenagers in the Gainesville area. Program participants engage in activities that combine games and exercises with storytelling and discussion to build a safe, friendly and creative community.

Pufahl, along with Theater Connect Co-Director Camilo Reina Munoz and College of Education Assistant Professor Hannah Bayne, Ph.D., recently published an article in Health Promotion Practice, in which they presented best practices for utilizing theatrical arts to reduce social isolation and improve health outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth.
